An amazing moment that shows even a micro preemie knows that his nurses are the best!
Our Unsung Heroes
The first stepping stone for My Unsung Hero Foundation was creating the “TLC Award”. This award’s first recipient is nine-year old Jessica Carscadden. What makes Jessica so special, besides her bubbly and great personality, is that she overcame incredible odds while suffering from a severe cleft palate. She has had to endure numerous surgeries, speech therapy appointments, and funny looks from most other kids around her.
Her positive attitude and compassion for others inspired Jessica to start collecting stuffed animals for service members and their families. If the service member has to leave, their kids can have this stuffed animal to “Huggle” with, in case they are lonely, scared, or in pain like Jessica was. Her effort inspired a movement – with number of organizations to help, along with her elementary school, and even many peers. My Unsung Hero Foundation rewarded Jessica with $1000 cash prize, custom made trophy, and one of her dreams come true! We flew her favorite singer (Paul Sikes) from Nashville to sing her favorite song to her in person. It was a surprise like no other – for her and her parents! The story of that night even made its way to a featured article in Country Magazine!
